A 7-amino acid epitope peptide that corresponds to a site on the second extracellular loop of the AT1 receptor that is recognized by autoantibodies from women with preeclampsia. This 7-amino acid peptide can
neutralize AT1-AA and thereby prevent autoantibodyinduced sFlt-1 production in placental explants and cultured trophoblast cells.

Short, overlapping peptides corresponding to the second extracellular loop of the AT1 receptor were prepared.
These peptides were exposed to
affinity-purified antibody preparations. We tested the effect on the spontaneous
beating rate of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes. The sequence AFHYESQ abolished
the response.
