The HMGI family
of proteins are architectural transcription factors and consists
of three members, HMGIC, HMGI and HMGI(Y). Recent research
results implicate HMGIC as playing a central role in obesity.
Mice with a partial or complete deficiency in HMGIC expression
resisted diet and leptin induced obesity.
